Who is eligible to apply for dental student loans?

In order to be eligible for dental student loans, you must be a graduate student in a degree program. You must be enrolled at least half-time and your school must be approved by Student Aid Center. Not sure about your school's eligibility? Call a Student Loan Counselor to find out.


How much can you borrow?

Degree Program Cumulative Loan Amount Limits for Each Academic Year
Dental School $1,500 - $225,000 Cost of attendance minus other aid
All Others $1,500 - $120,000 Cost of attendance minus other aid


How does your credit rating affect your dental student loans?

In order to apply for Student Aid Center dental student loans, you will need to be a credit-ready or credit-worthy borrower, Credit-worthy borrowers (and credit-ready borrowers who apply with a credit-worthy co-signer) may find that the costs of their loan are lower than other applicants' costs.

Credit-ready borrowers must meed certain credit requirements and be either a united States citizen or permanent resident who has lived in the United States for the past 2 years.

Credit-worthy borrowers, on the other hand, must:

  • have been employed for at least two years - or have been in business/self-employed for the same period;
  • have proof of their current income;
  • have demonstrated 21 months of a satisfactory credit history;
  • have lived at their current address for at least one year, and
  • be a United States citizen or permanent resident, and must have lived in the U.S. for the past 2 years.

Can international students apply for dental student loans?

International students can apply for dental student loans as long as they apply with a qualified co-signer. In addition, they will need to provide student visas and other required documents - call to determine what documentation you will need.

Repaying your dental student loans.
