Books and Study Materials
Books and supplies cost money, and someone has to pay. However, graduate students may qualify for
certain kinds of financial assistance such as, scholarships, tuition
waivers, loans, and grants, depending on where you will be
attending.
You should also contact the
financial department of the organization you will be attending to
see if they can offer any kind of financial aid in respect of books
and supplies.
However, the costs of obtaining
books and supplies can be offset by re-selling them again when you
no longer need them. You will, of course, need the full costs up
front, but these costs can be partly released
later.
The average statistics are: 25% of the books and supplies purchased are used quality, and 75% are new. Of the total number of books and supplies purchased, 50% is later resold to realise 50% of the original cost. Of course, your experience may differ.
There are no absolute figures that will apply to everyone, but total costs for books and supplies at present is probably between $800 and $1,200 per year. The Federal Direct PLUS Loan for Graduate Students may be able to assist you. Further information is available from the official website here: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/
It is important that you receive all the books and supplies that you need. Do not try to save by cutting out certain items. If it's on the list, then you need it, so make sure you get it!
